Mitchell power outage repaired

Monday, January 1, 2018

2018 got off to a rocky start for about 950 Northwestern energy customers in Mitchell New Year’s Day. Spokesman Tom Glanzer says power at the Lake Substation went out around 8:30 Monday morning. “We had a powerline on the ground which caused about 948 customers to be out of power,” said Glanzer. “We brought it back in at about 10:00 and 138 of those popped back off again and we knew we had something else going on.” He says crews determined the problem and corrected the issue.

Local officials opened the Corn Palace and the Davison County Fairgrounds as emergency shelters until repairs were made.

Glanzer says the cold weather had nothing to do with the outage but says problems like this seem to occur at the most inopportune times.
